Finding the Ultimate Balance of Mind and Body
Jet Li, renowned martial artist, actor, and philanthropist, embodies the harmony of mind and body. From childhood, he excelled in martial arts, achieving national fame in China. His transition to film brought international stardom, with iconic roles in Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die, and Hero, showcasing his physical prowess and philosophical depth.
However, the demanding world of action cinema took a toll. Injuries and health challenges forced Li to seek a deeper form of strength, and he eventually turned to meditation and Buddhism. He now advocates for this holistic approach, emphasizing the unity of mind and body.
During this intimate and insightful 60-minute conversation, Jet Li will share how his meditation journey led to greater balance and inner strength, and a more mindful and meaningful life.
Jet Li is a student and friend of Mingyur Rinpoche, and they have been together many times, as shown in the interview above, where you can watch an excerpt of Jet Li's insights.
“Everywhere I go, I still have time to meditate. People think meditating is sitting there, nobody bothering you, but you can even talk and still meditate.”

About Jet Li
Born in Beijing, Jet began studying wushu (the general Chinese term for martial arts) and was selected to the Beijing Amateur Sports School at the age of 8. After three years of extensive training, Jet won his first national championship.
Shortly after retiring from the sport at 17, he was offered many starring roles and began his film career with director Chang Hsin Yen for Shaolin Temple. Jet was propelled into rapid movie stardom and celebrity status upon its release as the film was an enormous success that spawned two sequels.
Since his first English language film appearance in Lethal Weapon 4, Jet went on to star and captivate audiences with iconic roles in films like Romeo Must Die, Hero, Fearless, Unleashed, The Warlords, and Ocean Heaven.
Beyond his acting career, Jet founded the One Foundation in 2005 after a near-death experience surviving the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. Jet started the One Foundation to create a culture of philanthropy in China and introduce a new model of giving to the world by building community and finding ways for people to give micro-donations as small as one yuan (~US$0.15) or to give back with time or whatever one can contribute to build toward the idea of one global human family.
His dedication to philanthropy and his cultural impact through martial arts and cinema has solidified his legacy as a global icon.
Since 1997, Jet has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism, a practice that led him to study under renowned masters, including Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Lho Kunzang Rinpoche, and Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro.
