The Perfection of Wisdom: Teachings on the Heart Sutra
With Senior Tergar Lama Khenpo Kunga
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
A weekend retreat with Senior Tergar Lama Khenpo Kunga and translation by Senior Tergar Instructor Cortland Dahl.
The Heart Sutra is revered throughout the Buddhist world as one of the most profound teachings ever given by the Buddha. From Tibet to Japan, this short teaching is chanted daily as a clear synopsis of the principle of emptiness, or shunyata. In the Heart Sutra, the Buddha explains that our beliefs are often at odds with the way things truly are. Guided by unconscious ideas and distorted perception, we get stuck in ways of thinking and being that perpetuate suffering and dissatisfaction. The principle of emptiness invites us to explore our experience deeply, uncovering our rigid concepts and opening us to the limitless potential of our own minds.
In this weekend retreat, Senior Tergar Lama Khenpo Kunga will explain the Heart Sutra, offering practical instructions for bringing its profound message directly into our own experience. His teachings, always filled with laughter and practical advice, will include explanations of the sutra, guided meditations, and periods of discussion. This retreat is suitable for anyone interested in Buddhism, including both beginners and advanced students.
For those who are interested, Khenpo Kunga will offer an opportunity to take refuge vows during the weekend retreat. Taking the refuge vow is the step of committing oneself to following the Buddha’s teachings.
