Opening the Heart
Joy of Living 2 Meditation Workshop
With Tergar Instructor Edwin Kelley
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
In this weekend meditation workshop with Tergar Instructor Edwin Kelley, we will learn how meditating on loving-kindness and compassion can open our hearts to the world around us and relax the self-centered tendencies that lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and suffering. Cultivating loving-kindness and compassion helps us to see the basic goodness that all beings share. By relating to others in an open-hearted way, we bring peace to the mind and develop a sense of confidence and purpose. This, in turn, naturally brings harmony to our relationships and enables us to work with challenging situations more effectively.
The schedule for this weekend workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, short presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Edwin, as well as guided meditations and discussion.
This retreat is open to meditators who have previously attended a Calming the Mind: Joy of Living 1 meditation workshop and meet the practice requirements, as well as to those who have practiced meditation regularly for at least three years.
About the Instructor:
Edwin Kelley first became interested in Buddhism in 1975 when he attended a meditation retreat near Perth, Australia. In 1992 went to Burma to undertake a six-month period of intensive retreat with the renowned meditation master Chanmyay Sayadaw. While practicing in Burma he ordained temporarily as a Theravada Buddhist monk. In 1994 he was hired as Director of Operations by one of America’s best known meditation retreat centers, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), in Barre, MA and later was appointed Executive Director of IMS. Edwin has a post graduate diploma in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland in the UK. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife Myoshin in 2009 to help establish the global Tergar Meditation Community.
