Contemplating Impermanence
Three Conversations about the End of Life
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
Join members of the community for three evenings of conversation and practice regarding the more practical aspects of meditation and the end of life.
At the first session on Monday, July 25, the topic will be how meditating on impermanence may assist us with the process of death and dying, with selected teachings and readings from Mingyur Rinpoche’s books and recorded material.
The second session on Monday, August 1, focuses on how we can be fully present in providing a meaningful support to those approaching death, with Senior Tergar Instructors Myoshin and Edwin Kelley. Edwin and Myoshin will share their experiences of being present for their own parents’ deaths, and how their meditation practice influenced their ability to support their parents and one another.
On Monday, August 8, trained home funeral guide Anne Murphy, a member of the Minnesota Threshold Network, will speak about how to express our own wishes and carry out those of others regarding how we would like to be supported at the time of death. We hope these three evenings are the beginning of engaging our meditation community in supporting each other as we face these important issues.
Volunteer practice leader Jeanne Lakso will facilitate these three evenings, which will include guided and open meditation and time for questions and discussion. Appropriate for both beginning and experienced meditators, each evening is designed to be a stand-alone session; attendees do not need to sign up for all three.
