In this weekend meditation workshop, we will learn how cultivating awareness can help create a peaceful mind and joyful heart. The practice of meditation enables us to transform all experiences, even difficult emotions and painful thoughts, into sources of joy. Over the course of this weekend, we will explore the landscape of our experience with mindful awareness, learning how to use the body, sensory experiences, thoughts, emotions, and even awareness itself as supports for meditation.
The schedule for this weekend workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Tergar Facilitator Kasumi Kato, as well as guided meditations and discussion. This weekend is suitable for people of all faiths, as well as both beginning and experienced meditators.
About the Facilitator:
Kasumi Kato grew up in northern Japan, where she learned to meditate from a young age. Since 2001, she has studied yoga, meditation, massage, and other healing arts throughout the world. She has received extensive training in mindfulness and other forms of meditation, and has a great love of solitary retreats. Kasumi has two Master’s degrees, and currently teaches Japanese.

- Base – This level covers the actual cost of the program – $135
- Reduced – Reduced fee those on a limited income – $100
- Repeating Calming the Mind Students – Special rate for those who have previously completed a Joy of Living 1 workshop, either in-person or online – $100

Cancellation Policy:
We make final arrangements for weekend events 10 days before the event start day. If you cancel after March 20, there will be a $25 administration fee.

Travel Information:
Decorah is in the far northeast corner of Iowa, at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 52 (north/south) and Iowa Hwy. 9 (east/west). It is just under a 3-hour drive from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and approximately 60 miles from Rochester, Minnesota; La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Waterloo, Iowa.
Transportation:
There is no public transportation to and from Decorah. Hometown Taxi (hometowntaxidecorah.com) provides pre-arranged rides to and from Decorah from all major area cities.
Lodging and Restaurants:
We do not provide room and board. The Hotel Winneshiek is within walking distance of The Amdal-Odland Heritage Center. There are a number of other hotels in the area and many B&Bs and cabins, both right downtown and in the surrounding countryside. The Oneota Food Co-op/Water Street Deli is within walking distance of The Amdal-Odland Heritage Center, as well as a wide-range of restaurants and coffee shops.
