Calming the Mind
Joy of Living 1 Meditation Workshop
With Tergar Instructor Edwin Kelley
Assisted by Facilitator Justin Kelley
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
In this weekend meditation workshop we will learn how cultivating awareness can help create a peaceful mind and joyful heart. The practice of meditation enables us to transform all experiences, even difficult emotions and painful thoughts, into sources of joy. Over the course of this weekend, we will explore the landscape of our experience with mindful awareness, learning how to use the body, sensory experiences, thoughts, emotions, and even awareness itself as supports for meditation.
This is an entry program to Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche’s wonderfully fresh and accessible teachings. It offers step by step instructions that will benefit those new to meditation and inspire those who have an existing practice. It is suitable for people of all faiths, as well as both beginning and experienced meditators. The schedule for this weekend workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Tergar Instructor Edwin Kelley and Facilitator Justin Kelley, as well as guided meditations and discussion.
About the Instructor and Facilitator:
Edwin Kelley attended his first meditation retreat in 1975 and has practiced in both the Theravada and the Tibetan Buddhist traditions. He was Executive Director of the Insight Meditation Society from 1996-2003 and has a postgraduate diploma in Buddhist Studies. Edwin is a long-time student of Mingyur Rinpoche. In addition to his work as a senior instructor, he currently serves as co-executive director, and is a board member for Tergar International.
Justin Kelley spent ten years living in India and Nepal, studying the Tibetan language, Hindu and Buddhist philosophical systems, and various meditative approaches. He first became a student of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche in 2007 and has practiced under his guidance ever since. In 2015 he became a PhD student at Rice University in the Department of Religion, where he studies with Dr. Anne C. Klein. His research focuses on the psychophysical transformation that occurs within religious practice, and the ways in which these practices influence our understandings of identity and the world we live in.
