Becoming Fully Human Along the Path to Freedom
A Practice Retreat
With Tergar Instructor Tim Olmsted
Portland, Oregon, USA
Join us as we embark on an experiential journey through the complete arc of the path to awakening. Our primary focus will be to explore how this journey unfolds in our own personal experience and how it is expressed in everyday life.
We’ll begin by familiarizing ourselves with the essential stability and peacefulness of mind through meditation. We’ll then learn how to embrace the entirety of our inner experience, the light and dark, the ups and the downs and connect to the world with warmth and tenderness.
Finally, this natural warmth and openness will lead us back to the radiant and free essence of mind. Through this journey we become fully human with the skills needed to live life with courage, authenticity, and unconditional love.
During the weekend there will be discussion and plenty of practice of the key principles of the path. Anyone committed to transforming their heart and mind—old hands and those new to the path—as well as those who work in helping professions, are most welcome to join in.
The Friday evening and Saturday portions of the weekend are open to anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the path.
Prerequisites for the Sunday session: The Sunday session is open to those students who have received “pointing out teachings” on the nature of mind from a qualified teacher. Participation in the Friday and Saturday session is required for those attending the Sunday program.
Tim Olmsted has been a student of meditation for more than forty years. For twelve of those years, he lived in Nepal, working as a psychotherapist and studying with many of the greatest Buddhist teachers of our time, including Mingyur Rinpoche’s father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. Tim is the founder, with Mingyur Rinpoche, of The Yongey Foundation. He is also a senior instructor and cofounder of Mingyur Rinpoche’s community, Tergar International. He has also served as the director of Gampo Abbey, the largest Buddhist monastery in North America. Tim is the president of the Pema Chödrön Foundation.
