Our fourth Sunday morning silence and meditation group is free and open to all. If you are new to meditation and would like to learn more, or if you are a seasoned practitioner and would like to deepen your practice, please join us as we explore the practice of mindfulness meditation.
Silence can offer us the opportunity to become acquainted with ourselves in a new way. When we remove ourselves from the chatter in the outer world, we begin to see more clearly the activity of our inner world. It allows us to come back to ourselves. By joining to gather and practicing in silence, it also gives us the support of the community as we learn to be “alone together”.
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche’s approach to meditation focuses on working with the challenges of day-to-day life to create a peaceful mind and open heart. Our meditation group includes short presentations on the basics of meditation practice, guided meditations, and group discussion. Feel free to drop in anytime!
- Held on the fourth Sunday of every month.
- 9:30am – 10:15am: Silent sitting meditation. Includes a 20-minute period of practice with a five-minute stretch break, followed by another 20 minutes of meditation. At that time the bell will be rung, but the meditation hall will remain in silence. People are welcome to socialize outside of the hall. This allows those who want to sit a bit longer to do so.
- 10:30am to 12 noon: Group meditation and discussion session reflecting the curriculum material currently covered in the Tuesday evening meditation group. This is a way for community members who cannot come to Tuesday night sessions still to be able to follow along with the curriculum.
