PUBLIC TALK
Cultivating Joy in an Age of Uncertainty
How can meditation help us find inner peace and contentment? In this public talk, Tibetan meditation master Mingyur Rinpoche will show us how the practice of meditation can put us in touch with a source of true happiness, even when we find ourselves in challenging circumstances. He will demonstrate how any experience, even powerful emotions and chronic pain, can be transformed into wisdom and compassion. We will discover that recognizing awareness through meditation can allow us to experience the natural peace and contentment that are part of our true nature.
This event is open to anyone with an interest in meditation.

WEEKEND PROGRAM
Meditation and the Joy of Living
Cultivating Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom in Everyday Life
Meditation enables us to discover a lasting contentment that is not subject to the fluctuating conditions of our lives, and to nurture the qualities of wisdom and compassion that naturally manifest from awareness itself. The Joy of Living is a secular path of meditation practice that nurtures basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the movements toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present-moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance.
This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn this accessible approach to meditation from Mingyur Rinpoche. Rinpoche will share practical advice on using meditation to cultivate awareness, compassion, and wisdom, sharing insights from his own experience and illuminating key points on meditation practice. We will also review Awareness Yoga, a series of simple physical exercises where we bring mind and body together. Each day will include teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche and short periods of guided meditation and discussion with Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley.
This program is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators.

Travel Info
Getting to Campus:
The University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver campus is located 30 minutes from the heart of downtown Vancouver, at the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula.
Public Transit:
Public Transit is the most popular way to get to and from campus. 15 bus routes link UBC to Metro Vancouver’s municipalities, and two campus shuttles serve the on-campus community. TransLink is Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority responsible for all regional transit options. Plan your journey using Metro Vancouver’s transit system or look at a map of transit routes.
UBC’s Vancouver campus is a big place. Once you are there, Community Shuttles will help you get to key locations and attractions in the area quickly.
Transit service changes can happen unexpectedly. Stay informed of any construction or detours that might be in place, or see if there are any TransLink service changes.
