Exploring the Nature of Mind
Heart Advice on the Path of Awakening
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Portland
(new venue for Friday evening teaching only)
Friday, June 17, 6pm-9pm
Notice: Registration has been re-opened for both events.
True freedom of mind is something we can discover for ourselves through the practice of meditation. In Tibetan Buddhism, the most direct and powerful way to experience this inner freedom is by exploring the nature of awareness, a journey that puts us in touch with a source of equanimity, wisdom, and compassion that we can access anytime and anywhere.
In this evening’s gathering, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will share insights and guidance for how to access the authentic qualities of mind’s essential nature. He will also share his own experience of his recent 4 ½ year retreat wandering through the Himalayas.
This evening program is open to those who are interested in practicing Buddhism who already have a strong background in meditation practice (see prerequisites below).
Qualifications:
The evening program is open to individuals who have had an established daily meditation practice for three years or more.

Meditation and the Joy of Living
Cultivating Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom in Everyday Life
Saturday, June 18 – Sunday June 19, 2016 from 9am–5pm
St. Anne’s Chapel, Marylhurst University
Marylhurst, Oregon
Meditation enables us to discover a lasting contentment that is not subject to the fluctuating conditions of our lives, and to nurture the qualities of wisdom and compassion that naturally manifest from awareness itself. The Joy of Living is a secular path of meditation practice that nurtures basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the movements toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present-moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance.
This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn this accessible approach to meditation from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Rinpoche will share practical advice on using meditation to cultivate awareness, compassion, and wisdom, sharing insights from his own experience and illuminating key points on meditation practice. He will also introduce new meditations, including breathing practices and physical exercises, that he himself practiced during his extended retreat. Each day will include teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche and short periods of guided meditation and discussion with Senior Tergar Instructor Tim Olmsted. This workshop is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators.
