Embracing the Feminine on the Path of Awakening
With Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley
New York City, New York, USA
Did you ever wonder about that intuitive voice that seems so ungraspable, or did you have times when you just wanted to break free from your conceptual mind? These are times when you are coming in contact with aspects of the feminine. Although elusive and easy to overlook, the world longs for these qualities. They are a necessary part of the process of awakening.
While the teachings of the Buddha ultimately lead us to transcend gender identities, understanding the attributes of feminine and masculine help us to embrace all aspects of our being.
Mingyur Rinpoche teaches that wisdom and skillful means are like two wings of a bird. Wisdom, the spacious and ungraspable qualities of the nature of mind, is conceptualized as the feminine. The masculine is expressed in the principle of skillful means, the compassionate actions that engage us with the world. When these qualities are in balance, we can transcend the world of duality and move toward awakening.
During this weekend workshop with Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley, we will inquire as to how the often-elusive qualities of the feminine can be brought to the forefront of our experience. We’ll learn to work with belief systems that can inhibit these qualities and explore Tibetan Buddhist teachings that nurture the authentic expression of our feminine attributes.
This workshop is open to all and is designed to help each of us discover the gendered aspects of our own experience. We all have feminine and masculine energies playing out in us each moment, but we don’t often recognize it. This workshop opens the door to exploring these energies and our relationship to them. Whatever our gender identity, this exploration can be worthwhile as a means of connecting with wisdom beyond gender. We will undertake this exploration in the context of meditation practice and waking up to our inherent goodness. We will use dialogue, writing, drawing, archetypes, meditation, storytelling, and celebrating the lives of enlightened women, all as a means of coming closer to our feminine qualities.
Come ready for some exploration!
