Tergar's unique approach allows for the integration of theory and meditation. The most important principles of the spiritual path are presented in an experiential manner so that they can be directly applied to one's immediate life circumstances.

Tergar Meditation Training

Joy of Living
The Tergar journey begins with the Joy of Living, a series of three seminars in which Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche shares precious teachings on how to calm the mind, open the heart, and develop insight into the true nature of reality. The Joy of Living emphasizes universal principles that provide the foundation for spiritual growth: inner peace, love, compassion, and wisdom. These teachings are beneficial for people of all faiths and belief systems.

Path of Liberation
The Path of Liberation builds on the foundational teachings of the Joy of Living, presenting a series of meditation techniques designed to strip away the causes of suffering and uncover the radiant awareness that underlies all experience. This course of practice and study, based on the ancient Buddhist teachings of Tibet, takes us beyond our ordinary state of being by addressing the fundamental confusion that lies at the root of all suffering. These practices enable us to uproot the distorted ideas and destructive behaviors that keep us trapped in a cycle of anxiety and dissatisfaction.

Tergar Study Program
The Joy of Living and Path of Liberation are accompanied by the Tergar Study Program. The Tergar Study Program begins with a series of short courses and study groups based on Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche's best-selling books The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness and Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom. Like the Joy of Living Seminars, the Tergar Study Program is open to both Buddhists and non-Buddhists.

Following these foundational courses is a multi-year program that covers the Three Vehicles of Buddhism: the Foundational Vehicle, the Great Vehicle, and the Vajra Vehicle. These teachings address the full spectrum of Buddhist thought and practice, starting with teachings on the Four Noble Truths and interdependence and leading up to the philosophy of Buddhist Tantra.

Tergar Local Group Meditation Program
The Tergar Community holds regular meditation groups that provide a thorough course of training in the fundamentals of meditation practice. Based on Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche's two books, The Joy of Living and Joyful Wisdom, our groups use guided meditations, discussion, and daily meditation exercises to explore the cultivation of awareness, empathy, and insight – the cornerstones of spiritual practice.
