The Union of Wisdom and Compassion:
Buddhist Meditations to Transform the Heart and Mind
With Cortland Dahl
Tergar Madison Meditation Center
Madison, Wisconsin, USA
The Buddhist path to calming the mind and opening the heart focuses on the practice of wisdom and compassion. Buddhist meditations that cultivate wisdom and compassion have been practiced for centuries. These methods are now being studied by modern science, which are showing that simple meditation practices can have profound effects on the body and mind.
In this daylong retreat, we will explore Buddhist teachings on the cultivation of wisdom and compassion. In particular, we will explore meditation practices that cultivate bodhichitta – the intention to help all beings realize their awakened nature – and analytical meditations that help to awaken wisdom.
This daylong retreat is suitable for beginners and experienced meditators. For those who attend Tergar’s Thursday night teachings or take part in the online course on the six paramitas, this retreat will provide an opportunity to get more in-depth instruction on the key points of these practices.
