Der Weg des Bodhisattva
Lehren über Mitgefühl und Weisheit
mit Tergar Lama Khenpo Kunga
Eiterfeld, Deutschland
English version follows below.

The Way of the Bodhisattva
Teachings on Compassion and Wisdom
with Tergar Senior Lama Khenpo Kunga
Eiterfeld, Germany
“If I have any understanding of compassion and the bodhisattva path, it all comes from studying this text.” His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.
The Bodhicharyavatara, also known as the Bodhisattva’s Way, written by Shantideva more than 1200 years ago, is one of the central works of Tibetan Buddhism.
The text explains the central aspects of compassion and wisdom in buddhism and shows how we can develop affection, joy and fearlessness in ourselves and towards others.
Compassion means helping all beings to discover their awakened nature. Wisdom stands for the recognition of pure awareness and the resulting inner peace in ourselves. In Tibetan Buddhism, compassion and wisdom are often depicted figuratively as the two wings of a bird – to be able to fly, he needs both equally.
The study and practice of Bodhicharyavatara is cultivated in all schools of Tibetan buddhism. The text is considered a standard work and suitable for all practitioners – regardless of whether they are at the beginning of dharma study or have many years of practice. The text captivates with the profound simplicity of its teachings and its power to open the heart and transform the mind.
Khenpo Kunga will teach the text through a commentary by Patrul Rinpoche, giving many practical hints on how we can translate the teaching into daily life.
Khenpo Kunga became a monk at a young age and began his education at Tergar monastery, where he studied the rituals, prayers, and other traditional practices of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. At fifteen, he entered an extended meditation retreat and spent three years mastering the profound contemplative practices of the Kagyü lineage. Following this period of intense meditation practice, he entered the renowned Dzongsar monastic college near Dharamsala in Northwest India. After studying there for eleven years and receiving his Khenpo degree (roughly equivalent to a PhD), he taught at Dzongsar college for three additional years. Khenpo Kunga’s primary teacher is Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, though he has studied with many other revered masters as well. In recent years, Khenpo Kunga has taught in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United States as one of the main teachers for the worldwide network of Tergar monasteries, meditation centers, and meditation groups. His way of teaching is characterized by warm-heartedness, profound knowledge and his naturally open nature.
