Tergar European Summer Retreat 2016
With Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche
Aubry-le-Panthou, France
Mingyur Rinpoche is offering a practice intensive residential retreat between 8 and 14 August at Vajradhara Ling in Normandie, France. Rinpoche will offer two different tracks during the retreat: Awareness, Compassion and Wisdom: Essential Teachings on the Joy of Living and Exploring the Nature of Mind: Heart Advice on the Path of Awakening. Both tracks will include teachings with Rinpoche with one track being held in the morning, the other in the afternoon, as well as several practice sessions. Please note that Awareness, Compassion and Wisdom is open to all retreat participants, while those who wish to take part in the Nature of Mind teachings will need to have fulfilled one of the prerequisites listed below.
Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom: Essential Teachings on the Joy of Living
Meditation enables us to discover a lasting contentment that is not subject to the fluctuating conditions of our lives, and to nurture the qualities of wisdom and compassion that naturally manifest from awareness itself. The Joy of Living is a path of meditation practice that was created by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Rooted in the Buddhist teachings of Tibet, these practices work with basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the impulse to move toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present–moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance.
This retreat offers a rare opportunity to explore the practice of meditation with Mingyur Rinpoche. This is the first time that he will present the essence of the Joy of Living teachings in Europe, sharing insights from his own experience and illuminating key points on the cultivation of awareness, compassion, and wisdom. He will also introduce new elements that he himself practiced during his extended retreat, including breathing practices and physical exercises.
This retreat is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators. It offers beginning meditators an opportunity to receive in-depth teachings on meditation practice from Mingyur Rinpoche and experienced meditators a chance to deepen their practice and understanding.
Note: This retreat will run concurrently with Exploring the Nature of Mind: Heart Advice on the Path of Awakening. One teaching session will be held each day for each retreat, in addition to practice sessions.
Exploring the Nature of Mind: Heart Advice on the Path of Awakening
True freedom of mind is something we can discover for ourselves through the practice of meditation. In Tibetan Buddhism, the most direct and powerful way to experience this inner freedom is by exploring the nature of awareness, a journey that puts us in touch with a source of equanimity, wisdom, and compassion that we can access anytime and anywhere.
This practice retreat presents a rare opportunity to receive in-depth teachings on the nature of mind from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. The nature of mind teachings are drawn from the paths of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, the most profound meditative teachings of the Kagyü and Nyingma Schools of Tibetan Buddhism. In addition to teachings on the nature of mind, Mingyur Rinpoche will also offer teachings on the foundational practices of Tibetan Buddhism (ngöndro), a set of meditations that help undo habits and patterns that keep us from recognizing our true nature.
The teachings given at this retreat provide the transmissions needed to begin formal Buddhist practice in the Tergar Community, including “pointing out” teachings on the nature of mind, refuge vows (the vows to formally enter the Buddhist path), and the transmissions to begin practicing the Tibetan Buddhist foundational practices (ngöndro). This retreat is open to those who are interested in practicing Buddhism and who already have a strong background in meditation practice (see prerequisites below).
Note: This retreat will run concurrently with Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom: Essential Teachings on the Joy of Living. One teaching session will be held each day for each retreat, in addition to practice sessions.
If you would like to attend this teaching, you need to meet at least one of these requirements:
