Tara: A Female Buddha – A Public Talk
With Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley
Tergar Minneapolis / St. Paul
Tara also known as “Mother of all the Buddhas”, is a multifaceted female Buddha in the Vajrayana tradition. It is common to all traditions within Tibetan Buddhism to practice with Tara as a meditation deity. Tara is one of the most beloved deities in Tibet, and children there learn to call her to mind in fearful situations for the reassurance and stability she brings. Tara—out of her great compassion to help all beings—clears away all kinds of fears, overcomes destructive emotions, and helps us realize our innate wisdom. There are numerous stories and myths of her origins, all of which point us toward the qualities that help us to awaken.
During this evening we will hear some of the stories of Tara and look at how she can inspire us in our lives. Though from the Buddhist tradition, Tara represents universal qualities we can all embrace. She is the feminine aspect of the enlightened mind.
These evenings include a period of meditation, a time to share informally with the community, a short talk by the instructor and a period of open discussion on how we are working with these aspects of our lives. The evening is open to all, beginners and experienced meditators alike, and is a great opportunity for us to delve deeper as a community into the richness of bringing meditation into our everyday lives.
