Parenting with Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom
A 6-week Introductory Online Course
With Susan Kaiser Greenland and Amy Roth
Anxiety is contagious and so is being steady and grounded. The global pandemic that has put everyone’s nervous systems on high alert has also heightened the motivation of parents’ to be present and grounded in their family relationships. This is as true for parents of grown children as it is for parents of young ones. Some of us are directly dealing with the loss of loved ones or jobs. Others are ill or afraid that they or their loved ones will become sick. And all of us are affected by uncertainty. Fortunately, there are themes and practices with roots in classical meditation that help parents use the strong challenging emotions that come in the wake of this pandemic to support their meditation and transform suffering.
In this Tergar International created program, we will explore key topics that support meditation with specific application to parenting with awareness, compassion, and wisdom. The program was developed as an in-person offering for local Tergar groups, however, we’ll use the pandemic as an opportunity to launch the program online and bring parents together from across the Tergar community. We will experiment with online breakout groups and other technology to find rich ways to connect and support one another. Each week will include exclusive video teachings by our guiding teacher Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, meaningful discussions around meditation and our role as parents, and opportunities for practice.
Children are more likely to learn and utilize mindful awareness in their lives when the adults who support them have a personal practice of their own. So, the easiest and most effective way for a child to learn about meditation is for their parents or other supporting adults to set an example. This introductory course lays the foundation for just that, so families can discover joy and harmony in their relationships with one another through mindful, compassionate presence.
You do not need to be a parent to enroll in this course! We welcome all people with an interest in the topic and no prior meditation experience is necessary.
