About the Joy of Living Program
The Joy of Living program provides a path of meditation training that is open to people of all faiths and belief systems. The style of meditation presented in this program teaches how to work with the challenges of everyday life to create a peaceful mind and joyful heart. The training itself is comprised of three levels. In Calming the Mind, the first level of the Joy of Living, we learn how to use any situation or experience, even difficult emotions and physical pain, as a gateway to inner peace. The second level, Opening the Heart, focuses on the cultivation of loving-kindness and compassion, while the third level, Awakening Wisdom, teaches the practice of insight meditation.
About Mingyur Rinpoche
Born in 1975 in Nepal, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche started learning how to meditate at an early age and began teaching at the age of 15 at Sherab Ling Monastery in India. While attending to the monasteries under his care in India and Nepal, he spends time each year traveling and teaching worldwide.
He has strong interest in science. He was one of the subjects who participated in research conducted by neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson on the effects of meditations on the brain.
In early June, 2011, Mingyur Rinpoche walked out of his monastery in Bodhgaya, India and began a “wandering retreat” through the Himalayas and the plains of India that lasted four and a half years. His first book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages.
