Meditation and the Science of Human Flourishing
With Cortland Dahl, Ph.D.
Parkes Hall, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois
Co-sponsored by Tergar Chicago
And Northwestern Religious and Spiritual Life
Can we cultivate well-being in the same way that we can train our bodies to be healthier and more resilient? If so, how might we use the practice of meditation to experience equanimity, to open our hearts fully to others, and to cultivate insight and wisdom?
In this one-day retreat, Dr. Cortland Dahl will share insights on the practice of meditation and the science of well-being. The program will include teachings on simple meditation practices that help us to strengthen the mind’s natural qualities of awareness, compassion, and wisdom, as well as discussions on the science of self-transformation and the cultivation of well-being. The schedule will include periods of guided meditation and discussion.
This event is open to all.
Cortland Dahl has practiced meditation for twenty-five years and has studied Buddhism around the world, including eight years spent living in Tibetan refugee settlements in India and Nepal. He holds a Ph.D. in the Mind, Brain, and Contemplative Science from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from Naropa University. Currently, Cortland serves as Chairman and Co-Executive Director of Tergar International and as Research Scientist and Chief Contemplative Officer at UW-Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds. As an author and translator, he has published numerous scientific articles and books on Buddhist practice. Read more…
