Happy New Year, friends, students and fellow meditators,
I am in the midst of an extended retreat at Sherab Ling Monastery in northern India. For the past four months, I, along with four hundred other monks and nuns, have been receiving a profound series of teachings from the great lineage master, Kenting Tai Situ Rinpoche. Each day we spend six hours practicing together, meditating on Situ Rinpoche’s illuminating instructions on the Ocean of Definitive Meaning, one of the most secret and precious Mahamudra texts in the Tibetan tradition.
It is very rare to receive such detailed teachings on this profound topic, and especially to share the experience with so many of my fellow monks and nuns. This retreat has reminded me of the power of spiritual community and dedicated meditation practice. When combined, these two forces can awaken the compassionate wisdom and radiant joy that lies in the hearts of all beings. Now that the New Year has provided us with another chance to re-affirm our commitment to the path of spiritual awakening, I hope that you will take this opportunity to make a positive resolution to deepen your meditation practice, expand your efforts to help others, and bring peace to your own life and to the lives of others. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will soon be leaving Sherab Ling Monastery to travel to Bodhgaya, India, where he will kick off his 2010 teaching tour. Following his teachings in India, Rinpoche will travel extensively throughout Asia, North America, and Europe. To check if Rinpoche will be coming to a city near you, please check his online schedule. In the following month, we will post detailed information concerning the various teachings Rinpoche will be offering, so check back regularly.
In addition to Mingyur Rinpoche’s retreats and seminars, the Tergar lamas and instructors will be offering various video seminars and practice retreats related to both the Joy of Living and Path of Liberation programs. We’re adding new events frequently. Be sure to check our online calendar on a regular basis.
If you didn’t get a chance to fill out our practice survey last month, please take a few minutes to do so now. Not only will this help us develop more resources to support your meditation practice, it will also tell us who to communicate with about certain practices, so if you’ve received teachings from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and would like to receive further teachings and materials related to the retreats you’ve attended, be sure to fill one out.
2009 was a special year for Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and his spiritual community. Without the support of all our patrons and volunteers, we couldn’t have made such great progress in bringing his compassionate vision to life. To all who contributed in various ways, we offer our heartfelt gratitude. May your generosity bring you peace, prosperity, and wisdom!
