Stories of Inspiration
The Lives of Great Practitioners
With Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley
Minneapolis, Minnesota
All of the practices and teachings that we receive come from a long line of practitioners and teachers who have devoted their lives to understanding the nature of reality. It is easy from a distance to believe that they somehow had pristine conditions that allowed them to attain realization in ways that are not open to us. By taking a closer look at their lives, we can look at the challenges they faced and how they persevered. We will be looking at Milarepa, the great retreat yogi who has been an inspiration to many; Gampopa one of Milarepa’s students who helped to establish Mahamudra within the Tibetan monastic tradition; Yeshe Tsogyal, one of the most famous enlightened women of Tibet, described as the Mother of Tibetan Buddhism; and Machig Labdron, a woman who gave up a life of privilege to become a wandering yogini in addition to being a mother who went on to become a great teacher.
By taking a look at some of their life stories we can find inspiration to meet the challenges in our own lives. It helps us to know that we come from a long line of beings that harbored the desire to free their hearts and in doing so become the helping hand to aid us in waking up out of confusion.
The day will include stories, chants inspired by these beings, and short periods of meditation and reflection.
This program is open to everyone and draws upon the Buddhist tradition.
We must have at least 12 people registered by April 14 for the program to go ahead, so please let us know by email to [email protected] if you are considering attending but cannot register by that date.
