All Day
Dreaming, Dying, and Awareness
Buddhist Teachings on Meditation and the Path of Awakening
Friday, July 1, 9am-5pm
Madison Masonic Temple
The practice of meditation puts us in touch with a source of inner peace and well-being that we can experience at any time, even when we find ourselves in chaotic or challenging circumstances. In Tibetan Buddhism, we use the challenges of life as opportunities to nurture awareness, compassion, and wisdom. The process of dying is said to present a unique and potent opportunity to awaken. The key to taking advantage of this opportunity lies in two of the most common experiences in our lives: the states of deep sleep and dreaming. For more than a thousand years, meditation practices that enable us to explore these states of consciousness have been valued as profound methods for transforming the mind and preparing for the moment of death.
In this one-day workshop, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will offer teachings on sleeping, dreaming, and ways to approach death with dignity, awareness, and care. His teachings will draw on classical teachings from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and his own near death experience while on retreat. The day will include periods of teaching, discussion, and short periods of meditation. This event is suitable for anyone with an interest in meditation and Tibetan Buddhism.

If so, how might we use the practice of meditation to experience equanimity, to open our hearts fully to others, and to cultivate insight and wisdom? In this weekend workshop, two world-renowned experts will share their perspectives and insights on meditation and the cultivation of well-being. Each day will include teachings on simple meditation practices that help us to recognize and nurture the minds natural qualities of awareness, compassion, and wisdom, as well as discussions on the practice and science of self-transformation and the cultivation of well-being.
