Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom
Essential Teachings on the Joy of Living
And White Tara Empowerment
Phoenix, Arizona
The Joy of Living is a path of meditation practice that was created by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Rooted in the Buddhist teachings of Tibet, these practices work with basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the impulse to move toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present–moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance. This workshop offers a rare opportunity to practice the Joy of Living teachings under Mingyur Rinpoche’s direct guidance. Rinpoche will share practical advice on using meditation to cultivate awareness, compassion, and wisdom, sharing insights from his own experience and illuminating key points on meditation practice.
This retreat is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators. It offers beginning meditators an opportunity to receive in-depth teachings on meditation practice from Mingyur Rinpoche and for experienced meditators to deepen their practice and understanding.
White Tara Empowerment

About Mingyur Rinpoche:
Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border regions between Tibet and Nepal, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche spent many years of his childhood in strict retreat. At the age of seventeen, Mingyur Rinpoche was invited to be a teacher at his monastery’s three-year retreat center, a position rarely held by such a young lama. Mingyur Rinpoche has been teaching throughout the world, with centers on five continents. His candid, often humorous accounts of his own personal difficulties have endeared him to thousands of students around the world. His best-selling book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages. In early June, 2011, Mingyur Rinpoche left his monastery in Bodhgaya, India to begin a period of extended solitary retreat. In November of 2015 Mingyur Rinpoche returned after four years of solitary retreat. He is currently teaching his monastic and western students living around the world.
